Spring Course Condition update:

I try to be a good communicator... I really do, I promise.  Unfortunately, this crazy winter has kept us hopping at the course and I have been remiss in updating this post.  My apologies.

Rain, rain, rain... Jeeze... Is it ever going to end?  We all know it has been great for the state, great for Antioch, and great for the golf course.  Well, maybe not great for the golf course but pretty dang good., at least.  The rains have helped remove salts from our soils, an unfortunate evil when irrigating with reclaimed water.  We know that is good, really good.  It has cuased us, unfortunately, to fall behind in our agroniomic progam in some areas.

With the course being so wet for so long, many of our programs were either put on hold or cancelled alltogether.  You may see some of the side effects like patchy weeds in the roughs or perimeters, messy cart paths, low tree branches, and scruffy bunker edges.  What you won't see, however, is poor playing conditions.

Despite the moisture, we have been doing a good job of keeping up with the mowing and keeping the greens in good shape.  Yes, we have 3 greens that are still troublesome and quirky to maintain, but in general, the greens are great again and the really good news for you is that we are aerifying with a very small, 1/4" tine this spring that will have almost no impact on playing conditions.  We are going to aerify 4-6 greens at a time without interruption to play over 3 or 4 days with minimal sand topdressing.

As I always say, slow and steady wins the race.  We are continuing to improve course conditions slowly and steadily every day.  We have an excellent maintenance team and they are all dedicated to making LTG&EC the best golf experience in the East Bay.  We thank you for your feedback and all of the compliments.

Fairways and greens...
